Although Unitarianism grew out of traditional Protestant Christianity, from which we inherit our emphasis on individual conscience, tolerance and social responsibility, it is no longer restricted to Christian ideas alone. Many Unitarians still see themselves as followers of the teaching and example of Jesus, but do not see him as an exclusive incarnation of God. Most Unitarians seek the substance of their faith by an awareness of truth in all religions and in secular and humanist sources. Meetings and services are open to all and we value the concept of sharing as we seek to 'build our own spirituality'.
What else might you find happening in our community?
We have a strong commitment to religious education in its widest sense. We hold regular series of discussion groups on religious, moral, ethical and social issues. For some sessions we have guest speakers.
A wide variety of events are held throughout the year and include live music evenings, poetry and music, garden party, walks, theatre visits.
Many people have special interests which they develop within smaller groups locally and often with national Unitarian groups such as the Meditational Fellowship, Unitarian Earth Spirit Network and Unitarian Church Music Society.
